KRISTIE POLK, B.A., CADC
After being employed in the career and workforce development field for many years, Kristie returned to school to study addictions counseling, and earned her certification from Waubonsee Community College. Additionally, she graduated with high honors from National-Louis University and was awarded her BA in Applied Behavioral Sciences. Kristie became certified through the State of Illinois as an Alcohol and Drug Counselor (CADC) in July, 2006, and has worked in this field ever since.
Clinically, Kristie provides strength-based treatment, believing that with education, empathy and encouragement clients can empower themselves to achieve successful outcomes. Within the therapeutic relationship, she views the role of the clinician as one of co-facilitating the treatment process, whereby the client and counselor together become agents of positive change—it is a relationship based on mutual respect, honesty and accountability. Kristie understands that the client retains the power of choice, however, and often assists individuals in examining their decision-making in light of “risks and consequences.” Throughout her working career, she has developed the skills necessary to motivate clients into meeting and exceeding their personal expectations. Sessions are conducted in individual and small group settings.
Kristie completed the DUI Service Provider Orientation, enabling Crossroads Counseling Services to provide DUI evaluations and Risk Education, as well as intervention services for both adults and adolescents. Crossroads is also able to administer drug and alcohol assessments, and deliver comprehensive treatment services at the out-patient and intensive out-patient levels.
Kristie joined Crossroads Counseling Services, LLC, in September, 2008.
